  • Overcoming Fear and Anxiety Through Scripture

Have You Ever Felt So Anxious That It Was Hard to Even Breathe Properly?

I have. Many times, in fact.

There have been nights when I’ve laid awake staring at the ceiling, heart pounding, thoughts racing like a train I couldn’t stop. Fear gripped me—fear of the unknown, fear of not being enough, fear of what tomorrow might hold.

I’ve had moments where anxiety whispered lies into my ears, convincing me that things would never get better. That I wasn’t strong enough. That I was alone.

But let me tell you something that has changed everything for me: the Word of God.

    My Personal Journey with Fear

There was a particular season when everything around me felt uncertain. I had just become a mother again, and I was battling exhaustion, health worries, marital problems and the overwhelming pressure of managing my home, dreams, and responsibilities.

One evening, I remember walking into the bathroom, locking the door behind me, sitting on the edge of the tub, and just weeping. Not soft tears—but deep, guttural sobs.

I cried out, “God, I’m scared. What if I fail? What if I let everyone down?”

And in that moment, the Holy Spirit gently reminded me of a scripture I had read countless times:

    > “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” — 2 Timothy 1:7

This verse transformed my subconscious and saved my life.

God was saying, “This fear? It’s not from Me. I have given you power. I have given you peace.”

    Scriptures That Have Anchored Me

I want to share a few verses that helped me break free from fear’s grip and step into God’s peace.

    1. Isaiah 41:10

    > “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you…”

This verse reminded me that I am never alone. Even when life feels overwhelming, God is right beside me, strengthening me moment by moment.

    2. Philippians 4:6-7

    > “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God…”

This scripture became my daily weapon. Instead of panicking, I began praying. I poured out my worries in prayer, and little by little, God replaced them with His peace.

    3. Psalm 34:4

    > “I sought the Lord, and He answered me; He delivered me from all my fears.”

That was me. I sought Him—and He answered. My fears didn’t always disappear overnight, but their power over me was broken.

    How I Fight Fear Today

Fear still tries to creep in. I still face moments of uncertainty. But now I respond differently:

I speak scripture out loud over myself and my home.

I worship, even when I don’t feel like it.

I pray honestly—as if God is sitting right next to me (because He is).

I remind myself of His faithfulness in the past.

Every time fear rises, I raise my faith higher.

    If You’re Struggling Today…

I want you to know: you’re not alone.

God sees you. He hears even your silent tears. And He is bigger than whatever you’re facing right now.

Start small. Choose one scripture. Write it down. Speak it over yourself every day. Let the Word of God drown out the voice of anxiety.

    God’s Word isn’t just beautiful—it’s powerful.

    A Prayer for You

    Heavenly Father,
I lift up every person reading this who is battling fear or anxiety. Let Your peace wash over them right now. Silence every lie of the enemy and replace it with Your truth. Remind them that they are not alone. That You are with them. That You are for them. Fill their hearts with courage, and their minds with calm. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

  • Why Christian Women Need Self-Care.

“Self-care is not a luxury, it’s obedience. Even Jesus paused to rest, pray, and recharge—so should you.”

    Harmonie Abraham

As Christian women, we often carry so much. We wear multiple hats; wife, mother, sister, friend, intercessor, encourager, homemaker, and more. While we pour into others day after day, it’s easy to neglect ourselves in the name of sacrifice or service. But here’s the truth: taking care of yourself is not selfish, it’s stewardship.

❤️Why Self-Care Matters for Christian Women

Self-care is not a worldly indulgence. It’s a spiritual necessity. When we neglect ourselves, spiritually, mentally, emotionally, or physically, we risk burnout, resentment, and disconnection from God’s best for us.

    💡Why Is Self-Care Important?

God created us with limits. Even Jesus—fully God and fully man—took time to retreat, rest, and be refreshed (Luke 5:16). If our Savior saw the need to pause and recharge, how much more do we?

    Self-care helps us:

    1) Stay spiritually grounded by making space for quiet time with God

    2) Care for others more effectively from a place of overflow, not emptiness

    3) Guard our mental and emotional health in a world full of noise

    4) Reflect God’s love for ourselves—because how we treat ourselves speaks volumes about what we believe about our worth

📖Biblical Examples of Rest and Renewal

The Bible is full of examples where rest and self-care were not just allowed but commanded:

Elijah was exhausted and overwhelmed. Instead of scolding him, God gave him food, rest, and quiet before addressing his spiritual need (1 Kings 19:5–8).

Jesus often withdrew to quiet places to pray (Mark 1:35, Luke 5:16).

The Sabbath itself is a gift of rest from God—a rhythm of restoration and worship (Exodus 20:8–10).

💡How I Practice Self-Care as a Busy Mum of Four (with Two Under Two!)

Let me be honest, life is busy! With four beautiful children, two of them under two, I know how hard it is to find time for yourself. But I’ve learned that making space for self-care is essential to be the mother, wife, and woman God has called me to be.

Here’s what my self-care rhythm looks like:

🌅Early mornings just for me and God: I wake up before the children to spend 15 minutes reading the Word, 15 minutes in prayer, and 30 minutes getting myself ready in peace. That quiet hour sets the tone for my whole day.

✨Morning walks with the little ones: After dropping off the older kids at school, I take the babies for a one-hour walk in the buggy. That fresh air and movement helps my mental health and gives me space to think, breathe, and reconnect.

🌃Friday evenings just for me: I set aside three hours every Friday evening. Sometimes I get my nails or hair done, other times I just read a book or watch a movie, whatever refreshes me in that moment.

These small acts of self-care are my way of saying, “Lord, I honor the body and mind You gave me.”

Sister, if you’re feeling weary, stretched thin, or running on empty—know that you’re not alone. God sees you. He delights in your service, but He also invites you to rest in Him.

Taking care of yourself isn’t weakness. It’s wisdom. You can’t pour from an empty cup. Make space to rest, to reflect, to enjoy the life God has given you. It doesn’t have to be extravagant. It just needs to be intentional.

You are worthy of rest. You are allowed to pause. You are loved deeply by a God who knows you need it.

Take care of yourself, sweet friend—mind, body, and spirit.

    With love and grace,
    Harmonie 💜
