  • Overcoming Fear and Anxiety Through Scripture

Have You Ever Felt So Anxious That It Was Hard to Even Breathe Properly?

I have. Many times, in fact.

There have been nights when I’ve laid awake staring at the ceiling, heart pounding, thoughts racing like a train I couldn’t stop. Fear gripped me—fear of the unknown, fear of not being enough, fear of what tomorrow might hold.

I’ve had moments where anxiety whispered lies into my ears, convincing me that things would never get better. That I wasn’t strong enough. That I was alone.

But let me tell you something that has changed everything for me: the Word of God.

    My Personal Journey with Fear

There was a particular season when everything around me felt uncertain. I had just become a mother again, and I was battling exhaustion, health worries, marital problems and the overwhelming pressure of managing my home, dreams, and responsibilities.

One evening, I remember walking into the bathroom, locking the door behind me, sitting on the edge of the tub, and just weeping. Not soft tears—but deep, guttural sobs.

I cried out, “God, I’m scared. What if I fail? What if I let everyone down?”

And in that moment, the Holy Spirit gently reminded me of a scripture I had read countless times:

    > “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” — 2 Timothy 1:7

This verse transformed my subconscious and saved my life.

God was saying, “This fear? It’s not from Me. I have given you power. I have given you peace.”

    Scriptures That Have Anchored Me

I want to share a few verses that helped me break free from fear’s grip and step into God’s peace.

    1. Isaiah 41:10

    > “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you…”

This verse reminded me that I am never alone. Even when life feels overwhelming, God is right beside me, strengthening me moment by moment.

    2. Philippians 4:6-7

    > “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God…”

This scripture became my daily weapon. Instead of panicking, I began praying. I poured out my worries in prayer, and little by little, God replaced them with His peace.

    3. Psalm 34:4

    > “I sought the Lord, and He answered me; He delivered me from all my fears.”

That was me. I sought Him—and He answered. My fears didn’t always disappear overnight, but their power over me was broken.

    How I Fight Fear Today

Fear still tries to creep in. I still face moments of uncertainty. But now I respond differently:

I speak scripture out loud over myself and my home.

I worship, even when I don’t feel like it.

I pray honestly—as if God is sitting right next to me (because He is).

I remind myself of His faithfulness in the past.

Every time fear rises, I raise my faith higher.

    If You’re Struggling Today…

I want you to know: you’re not alone.

God sees you. He hears even your silent tears. And He is bigger than whatever you’re facing right now.

Start small. Choose one scripture. Write it down. Speak it over yourself every day. Let the Word of God drown out the voice of anxiety.

    God’s Word isn’t just beautiful—it’s powerful.

    A Prayer for You

    Heavenly Father,
I lift up every person reading this who is battling fear or anxiety. Let Your peace wash over them right now. Silence every lie of the enemy and replace it with Your truth. Remind them that they are not alone. That You are with them. That You are for them. Fill their hearts with courage, and their minds with calm. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

    With love and strength,
